Life & work
Training and group work
Azar was born in Tehran in 1983. He began music lessons at ten and entered Tehran University of Arts in 2002 to study double bass. After graduating, he joined Mohammad Reza Shajarian’s ensemble and later worked with Homayoun Shajarian.2
His group work included Pallett, Dang Show and Dal. By June 2018, he had left Pallett.24
Solo recordings
In 2019, Azar released his debut album, Blue Gray. He drew on a personal love story, combining his voice with electric instruments and electronic sounds.2 On “Vâveylâ,” he sang with only double bass for accompaniment. He arranged the song and played every bass part himself.5
His second album, 40, followed in 2025. With vocals and acoustic instruments, he used sparse arrangements to reflect on four decades of his life and musical work.2 In May that year, he gave the first concert for 40 at Oscar Peterson Hall in Montréal.26

DARIUSH AZAR — Musician · Singer · Composer · Contrabass player
He released his debut album Blue Gray (آبی خاکستری) in 2019 and his second album 40 (چهل) in 2025.
personal love story set within an experimental electronic soundscape, blending vocals with electric instruments.
A deeply personal second album - a meditation on four decades of life, craft, and self-reflection; creating a minimalist atmosphere through a blend of vocals and acoustic instruments.
He began his musical studies at age 10 — Orff method, tombak, piano, clarinet, and classical vocals — before entering Tehran University of Arts to specialize in double bass in 2002.
After graduation, he joined the ensemble of master Mohammad Reza Shajarian and later collaborated with Homayoun Shajarian. Between 2009 and 2016 he pioneered Iranian fusion music with groups Pallett, Dang Show, and Dal, touring across Europe and Iran.
